Recreational anglers angry about South Coast MLPA Process

Sacramento, CA -- March 4, 2010 -- As part of the South Coast region's Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA) process, yesterday the California Fish and Game Commission (FGC) voted to only keep in consideration the alternative created by the Blue Ribbon Task Force (BRTF). The Commission's action effectively terminates consideration of the three proposals created by the citizens selected to participate in the process. This includes Proposal 2, which is supported by the Partnership for Sustainable Oceans (PSO) and the recreational fishing and boating community in Southern California.

California Commission Asks Schwarzenegger to Exempt Game Wardens

In January, the California Fish and Game Commission (FGC) sent a letter urging California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to exempt the state’s game wardens from furloughs, which require game wardens to take three unpaid furlough days per month.

The Becoming an Outdoors-Woman, California organization has posted the 2010 schedule of events on their newly designed website at www.bowca.org.

This marks the fifth year as a non-profit organization in California. The outdoor skills workshops cater to the beginner or intermediate outdoors-woman. All equipment is provided so the participant doesn't have to invest in equipment before they know if they want to pursue that particular outdoor skill.

California anglers advised to avoid endangered coho salmon

Spurred on by recent rains, endangered coho salmon are returning to the Russian River to spawn, the Department of Fish and Game (DFG) reports. In an effort to protect and ensure the safety of the returning coho, conservation groups and fishery managers are conducting an educational campaign to ensure that steelhead anglers can differentiate between a coho and a steelhead trout.

San Jose State leads FLW College Fishing tourney

STOCKTON, Calif. (Sept. 20, 2009) - The San Jose State University team of Glen Wyatt of Vallejo, Calif., and Eric Andersen of San Jose, Calif., added to their lead at the National Guard FLW College Fishing Western Division Regional event on the California Delta Sunday with five bass weighing 11 pounds, 4 ounces for a two-day total of 11 bass weighing 26-1.
