Kayak Angler's Near Death Experience and the Daring Rescue On Video

During the shooting of an episode of The Kayak Fishing Show, Jim hooked up with world champion whitewater kayaker's Ken Whiting and Brendan Mark on Canada's Ottawa River. The goal was to paddle through the river's rapids to access remote and otherwise inaccessible bays. While running the first major rapid, Jim Sammons learns the hard way that running whitewater in a fishing kayak can be both terrifying, and potentially deadly. Trapped in the grips of a powerful hydraulic, a daring rescue is required to pull Jim to safety.

Species affected: All gamefish.
Location: The North Fork Nooksack River from the yellow post located at the upstream most corner of the hatchery grounds, approximately 1,000 feet upstream of the mouth of Kendall Creek, downstream to the Mosquito Lake Road Bridge.

The 336-acre (136-hectare) Big Valley Property is nestled within the Qu'Appelle Valley and is adjacent to the Valeport Wildlife Management Unit. The Valeport Wildlife Management Unit is a major concentration site for migratory birds. Several nationally and provincially listed Species at Risk including the northern leopard frog, bigmouth buffalo fish, burrowing owl and Sprague's pipit, can be found in the area.
