Keenan Clinches Second Overall National Guard FLW Walleye Tour Angler Of The Year Title In His Career

PIERRE, S.D.- Pro Tom Keenan of Hatley, Wis., wrapped up his season-long quest for the National Guard FLW Walleye Tour Angler of the Year title Saturday at the FLW Walleye Tour event on Lake Oahe. This is Keenan's second overall title and he received $10,000 for the honor. Keenan's previous title came in 2006 and in 2010 he claimed Eastern Division FLW Angler of the Year. Along with his previous angler of the year titles, Keenan has logged an additional three top-10 finishes in the FLW Angler of the Year race during his 11-year professional career with FLW Outdoors.

PIERRE, S.D. – To protect the public and limit further damage to homes, docks and other private property along the Missouri River, Governor Dennis Daugaard has declared the South Dakota portion of the Missouri River from Paddlewheel Point upstream to a line stretching from the electronic sign placed near the boat ramp in Nebraska Tailwaters Recreation Area to a similar sign on the Training Dike Recreation Area as a No Wake Zone, effective at Noon on Friday, May 27, 2011.

Flooding Remains Problem at Lake Thompson

LAKE PRESTON, S.D. – Due to flooding, South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department officials have been unable to open the southwest access area at Lake Thompson.
The boat ramp was expected to open on Tuesday, but high waters have prohibited access. The ramp will remain closed until conditions improve.

South Dakota Seventh Grader Wins "Take Your Parent Fishing" Drawing Contest

COLUMBIA, S.C. (April 8, 2011) - The Shakespeare drawing contest registered more than 6000 students in 124 schools in 18 states to compete in the inaugural "Take Your Parent Fishing" drawing contest for middle school students. Spearfish S.D., seventh grader, Kady Defloth won the grand prize, which includes a Shakespeare kayak, life vests, fishing rods, reels, line, bait and fishing tools, totaling $3,000.

Black Hills Snowmobile Trails Open Dec. 15, 2010

PIERRE, S.D. – Good snow cover in the majority of the Black Hills will greet snowmobile enthusiasts when the Black Hills snowmobile trail system opens today, Dec. 15. The season runs through March 31 in the Black Hills.

Custer State Park Roads to Close Temporarily

CUSTER, S.D. - Highways 89 and 87 in the Sylvan Lake area of Custer State Park will be closed from Thursday, Dec 16, through Tuesday, Dec. 21. The area will re-open Wednesday morning, Dec 22.
A helicopter removing trees infested with mountain pine beetles will fly over those highways from Thursday through Tuesday, necessitating the closures.

Celebrate Fall at Newton Hills State Park’s 11th Annual Celebration

CANTON, S.D. – Pumpkin catapulting, carving and seed guessing are just a few of the activities for visitors to Newton Hills State Park for the 11th Annual FestiFall on Saturday, Oct. 2.

The popular FestiFall event, scheduled for 1-5 p.m. CDT, is attended annually by people of all ages. This year features many family activities, including arts and crafts with over 30 vendors, kids’ games and bluegrass music. Kids of all ages can participate in “make and take” craft activities, such as leaf magnets, foam masks and pipe-cleaner spiders.
