WVDNR Physically Challenged Advisory Board to Meet
at Cabela’s in Triadelphia on August 5 at 1 p.m.

The next regular meeting of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Physically Challenged Advisory Board (PCAB) is scheduled for Wednesday, August 5, at 1 p.m. at the Cabela’s store at One Cabela Drive in Triadelphia (Wheeling), West Virginia. Items to be discussed are:

National Fishing and Boating Week 2009 will be highlighted by the 20th annual Free Fishing Weekend on June 13 and 14, according to Frank Jezioro, Director of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (DNR). During these two days, residents and nonresidents can fish in West Virginia without a license. "It is a great opportunity to remind people of the fun of fishing, especially with family and friends. If you already have a license, take someone fishing. It may be your children, spouse, or co-worker, and you will be introducing them to a lifetime of outdoor enjoyment," said Jezioro.

WVDNR Tags Crappie in Stonewall Jackson Reservoir

More than 700 Stonewall Jackson Lake crappie have been tagged by West Virginia Division of Natural Resources fisheries biologists as part of a research project to determine angler catch and harvest in this valuable Lewis County fishery, according to DNR Director Frank Jezioro.

WVDNR TO STOCK CATCHABLE CHANNEL CATFISH

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources will be stocking more than 5,500 catchable-size channel catfish during the weeks of May 4 and 11, according to Director Frank Jezioro. Fish will be 3/4 pound to two pounds in size and were reared at either the Apple Grove State Fish Hatchery or purchased from a private vendor. DNR personnel will stock 22 lakes throughout the state to enhance family fishing opportunities during the spring and summer.

DIDYMO CONFIRMED IN WEST VIRGINIA CREEK

The invasive algae known as Didymo has been found in Seneca Creek near its confluence with Whites Run, according to Mike Shingleton, Assistant Chief, West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Section. An angler fishing in Seneca Creek had earlier sent DNR a picture of what he believed was Didymo. DNR personnel investigated the Didymo report and collected samples from Seneca Creek. Whites Run was also inspected in its lower reaches, but nothing resembling Didymo was observed. The Seneca Creek samples were sent to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources for confirmation. All samples contained Didymo.
