Burbot Bash Should Help Fish in Flaming Gorge

Two state wildlife agencies, four chambers of commerce and the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area are joining forces to fight an unwelcome invader in Flaming Gorge Reservoir.

The culprit is an illegally stocked fish known as a burbot or ling, a freshwater cod native to waters east of the Continental Divide.

St. George -- A surprise was waiting for boaters who entered Utah from Arizona on the morning of May 13.

They were required to pull off of Interstate 15 at the port of entry just south of St. George. Then biologists and law enforcement officers with the Division of Wildlife Resources inspected their boats and personal watercraft for quagga mussels.

Walleye spawn in May. During the spawn, walleye typically gather near tributaries (waters that flow into or out of a body of water) and in spawning areas within the main body of water itself. Gathering in these areas makes it easier for anglers to find them.
