Two state wildlife agencies, four chambers of commerce and the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area are joining forces to fight an unwelcome invader in Flaming Gorge Reservoir.

The culprit is an illegally stocked fish known as a burbot or ling, a freshwater cod native to waters east of the Continental Divide.

Mussels in Utah: So Far, So Good
Quagga and zebra mussels have devastated fishing waters, plugged water delivery systems and ruined boats all across the nation.

But those things haven't happened in Utah. How come?

You can save money on a Utah fishing license if you've been injured while serving in the armed forces.

To show its appreciation for the sacrifice you've made, the Division of Wildlife Resources is offering discounted fishing licenses to Utah veterans who have disabilities.

Dutch John -- You don't need to cancel your plans to fish one of the country's best trout waters this summer.

The Green River in Utah is running higher than normal. But those who have learned how to fish during higher flows are enjoying good to excellent fishing.

St. George -- A surprise was waiting for boaters who entered Utah from Arizona on the morning of May 13.

They were required to pull off of Interstate 15 at the port of entry just south of St. George. Then biologists and law enforcement officers with the Division of Wildlife Resources inspected their boats and personal watercraft for quagga mussels.

BLOOMFIELD, N.M. - Utah's Jordan Lochhead has been bass fishing for just three years, but he seemed a seasoned pro yesterday as he edged Colorado's Seth Willard in the 15-18 age bracket to advance to the Junior World Championship later this year. In the 11-14 group, Washington's Tanner Boday squeezed past Colorado's Josh Villa by just an ounce.

Big eyes, sharp teeth and white, flakey flesh make walleye one of the most unique and best tasting fish in Utah.

And the month of May might be the best time of the year to catch them.

Walleye spawn in May. During the spawn, walleye typically gather near tributaries (waters that flow into or out of a body of water) and in spawning areas within the main body of water itself. Gathering in these areas makes it easier for anglers to find them.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Fish Habitat Action Plan (www.fishhabitat.org) has unveiled the 2011 10 "Waters to Watch" list, a collection of rivers, streams, estuaries , watershed systems and shores that will benefit from strategic conservation efforts to protect, restore or enhance their current condition.

Salt Lake City -- The first tiger muskies ever raised in Utah will soon be swimming in six waters in the state.

The tigers will be only two to three inches long when they're released. But they won't stay that size for long.
