BASS FISHING'S JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPION TO BE CROWNED CONJUNCTION WITH THE FORREST WOOD CUP

PITTSBURGH - The Bass Federation has announced that its 2009 National Guard Junior World Championship will be held on The Allegheny River in Kittanning, Pennsylvania., July 31 - Augist 1, in conjunction with the $2 million Forrest Wood Cup - the world championship of bass fishing - presented by BP and Castrol. Daily weigh-ins will be held at Kittanning Riverfront Park, and will be streamed live to fans around the world watching "FLW Live" on FLWOutdoors.com. All junior anglers will walk across the main stage to be recognized during the Saturday weigh-in of the Forrest Wood Cup in Mellon Arena.

Surplus Trout to be Stocked in PA Waters

HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania Game Commission Executive Director Carl G. Roe today praised the House Game and Fisheries Committee and its chairmen, Rep. Edward G. Staback (D-Lackawanna) and Rep. Craig Dally (R-Northampton), for its near unanimous approval of House Bill 97, which would increase penalties and fines for poaching. The bill was sponsored by Rep. Staback.

Fish & Boat Commission Cancels Stocking of Connoquenessing Creek

Meadville, PA – The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) has cancelled today’s scheduled fish stocking of the approved trout waters on Connoquenessing Creek in Butler, PA.

This decision was made after learning of a report yesterday from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) that found high levels of arsenic in the soil in this area. DEP recommends avoiding areas of exposed soils, including the stream banks, in the area of Father Marinero Park, down to (approximately) Negel's car wash near the Monroe Street Bridge. DEP does not believe that fish can or will absorb the contaminate in a form harmful to humans. PFBC biologists also indicated that arsenic accumulation in previously stocked trout is not a major concern since they have only been in these waters for a short period of time.
