Fall chinook advisory committee meeting in Brookings

Oregon Fishing NewsROSEBURG, Ore. – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) and the Rogue SMU Fall Chinook Conservation Plan advisory committee have scheduled a Dec. 7 working meeting in Brookings that is open to the public. The meeting is 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the Chetco Public Library, 405 Alder Street, and the public has 10 minutes to comment at the end of the meeting.

Apply for controlled hunts early for chance to win Sports Pac or Non-Resident Hunting License

Oregon Fishing NewsSALEM, Ore.—Oregon resident hunters that apply for and are issued a controlled big game hunt application by April 15, 2010 will be entered into several drawings to win a 2011 Resident Sports Pac, a $164.75 value. The purpose of the drawings is to encourage hunters to apply for controlled hunts early, before the May 15, 2010 deadline.
Russel appointed to hatchery research advisory committee

Commission meets Dec. 10-11 in Salem to consider marine reserves

ODFW grants keep 608,000 acres of private timberlands open to hunting and fishing

Oregon Fishing NewsKLAMATH FALLS, Ore. —A $200,626 grant from ODFW’s Access and Habitat Program along with a $36,840 grant from the Fish Restoration and Enhancement Program is helping to keep 608,000 acres of industrial timberlands owned by JWTR Company of Klamath Falls open to public access for hunting, fishing and other outdoor recreation opportunities through 2014.
Fishery managers predict 470,000 Columbia River spring Chinook in 2010

Oregon Fishing NewsSALEM, Ore. -- The technical committee advising Columbia River fishery managers has released its forecast for the 2010 spring Chinook run. If the fish show up as projected, the forecast of 470,000 spring chinook would be the largest return to the Columbia since 1938.
Commission adopts rules for marine reserves
Submitted by admin on Fri, 2009-12-18 11:13. Oregon Fishing NewsSALEM, Ore.—The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission today adopted regulations that will prohibit fishing and hunting in Oregon’s newly created marine reserves.
The new rules will take effect June 30, 2011 and govern the Otter Rock marine reserve near Newport and the Redfish Rocks marine reserve and marine protected area near Port Orford. The two sites were proposed as “pilot” marine reserves at the end of 2008, and the 2009 Oregon Legislature directed ODFW and other relevant state agencies to develop the rules for managing marine reserve sites. Management plans being put together by state agencies and community teams will determine how other non-extractive activities, such as surfing, will be managed in the marine reserves.
