Spring chinook fishery opens on Powder River

LA GRANDE — The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) plans to release approximately 200 spring chinook salmon into the Powder River to create a unique fishing opportunity. A May 30 to September 1 angling season has been established to harvest these fish. The open area is from Hughes Lane Bridge near Baker City to Mason Dam. The daily bag limit is 2 spring chinook salmon.

Special June 15 meeting on troll salmon permit case

SALEM, Ore. – The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission on Friday approved a wild coho salmon season for four coastal rivers this fall based on predictions of a large coho return to the coastal rivers and streams.

Imnaha, Wallowa rivers open June 13 to spring chinook fishing

ENTERPRISE, Ore. - The Imnaha and Wallowa rivers in Northeast Oregon will open to hatchery spring chinook fishing Saturday, June 13.

Biologists with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife estimate over 5,000 adult spring chinook will return to the Imnaha River, a tributary of the Snake. Of those, approximately 80 percent will be adipose fin-clipped hatchery fish. On the Wallowa River, a tributary of the Grande Ronde, the adult run is expected to exceed 2,500 fish of which approximately 50 percent will be marked hatchery fish.

Sturgeon retention in Bonneville Reservoir closes June 6

CLACKAMAS, Ore. – Oregon and Washington fishery managers announced today the closure of sturgeon retention on the mainstem Columbia River and tributaries from Bonneville Dam to The Dalles Dam (Bonneville Reservoir) effective 12:01 a.m. June 6.

Salem, Ore.— Fishing, hunting and wildlife viewing enthusiasts contributed $2.5 billion to Oregon’s economy in 2008 according to a new study conducted by Travel Oregon and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. Residents and nonresidents spent more than $1 billion on trips and $1.5 billion on equipment and activity-related purchases at Oregon-based retailers and suppliers.

New trout season to open on lower Clackamas

CLACKAMAS, Ore. – Anglers have a new opportunity to harvest stray hatchery trout, starting May 23 when trout season opens on the lower Clackamas River.

This year fishermen will be permitted to keep up to two adipose fin-clipped trout per day caught in a 20-mile stretch of the river from its confluence with the Willamette River upstream to North Fork Dam.
