When Tommy Couch of Howe was reeling in his 76-lb. state record flathead catfish from the Poteau River June 13, he just knew it was going to be a carp.

"He stayed right along the bank and right along the bottom," Couch said, similar to carp he has landed in the past. "When his tail finally came up - that's when I realized what he was."

OKLAHOMA FISHING GUIDES MUST BE LICENSED BY JULY 31

Fishing guides who operate on Oklahoma waters will be required to purchase a fishing guide license from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation beginning July 31.

At its June meeting, the Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Commission approved emergency rules to go into effect July 31 in accordance to Senate Bill 277, which recently was signed by the Governor.

EUFAULA, OKLAHOMA - Mike Tyner of Stillwater, Okla., won the Walmart Bass Fishing League® Okie Division tournament on Lake Eufaula Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 18 pounds, 10 ounces. The victory earned Tyner $3,889 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the DeGray Lake Regional Championship in Arkadelphia, Ark., Oct. 22-24, where he could ultimately win a new Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.

GROVE, OKLAHOMA - Tyler Matlock of Omaha, Arkansas, won the Walmart Bass Fishing League® Ozark Division tournament on Grand Lake Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 20 pounds, 13 ounces. UNITED STATES SEEKS $21 MILLION FROM STATE OF OKLAHOMA ON UNPAID RESERVOIR CONTRACT

WASHINGTON-The United States has asked a federal court in Oklahoma to order the state of Oklahoma to pay more than $21 million due under a contract with the Army Corps of Engineers for the construction of Sardis Lake reservoir, the Justice Department announced Thursday. The state has owed payments to the federal government since 1983, and its last payment was 11 years ago.

After weeks of speculation, a one-month-old North American river otter pup is taking its first public steps and swimming with its mother’s help at the Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks. The pup and the female and male pair are part of the Hayes Family Ozark Stream exhibit, which just opened this past March and is the Aquarium’s first exhibit to feature mammals.

Draper: Elevation 1/2 ft. above normal and clear. Channel catfish good on cut baits and stink bait. White bass good on medium-diving crankbaits, jigs and sassy shad, look for surfacing activity. Report submitted by Tony Woodruff, game warden stationed in Cleveland County.

Lake Record Fish Program Still Adding to the Books

Anglers are still adding to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation Lake Record Fish program’s record books this year, most recently with the landing of a 22.3-lb. striped bass at Kaw Lake Sept. 10 and a 43.2-lb. flathead catfish at Lake Eufaula on Aug. 20.
