COLUMBUS, OH - Starting June 22, the Castalia State Fish Hatchery will be temporarily closed to visitors and tour groups. The temporary closure will run through August 28.

LAKE VIEW, Ohio - Tom Defibaugh of Bellefontaine, Ohio, won the Walmart Bass Fishing League® Buckeye Division tournament on Indian Lake Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 12 pounds, 7 ounces. The victory earned Defibaugh $4,199 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Kentucky/Barkley Lakes Regional Championship in Gilbertsville, Ky., Oct. 15-17, where he could ultimately win a new Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.

COLUMBUS, OH - Recreational boaters looking for a marina facility or convenient boat launch ramp can request the newly updated Ohio Boating Areas map and guide from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft. SANDUSKY, OH - As summer kicks off, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) reminds beach-goers to be aware of the waves, currents and lakebed variations that occur on Lake Erie. In an effort to heighten public awareness of rip currents at beaches, each year the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) designates the first full week of June as National Rip Current Awareness Week.

SANDUSKY, OH - The Ohio Waterways Safety Council will hold its quarterly meeting at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 22 at the Ottawa County Visitor's Bureau, 770 SE Catawba Road in Port Clinton. The five-member citizen advisory council, appointed by Governor Ted Strickland, provides input on boating issues to the ODNR Division of Watercraft.

Each year, more than 7,000 volunteers of all ages play a vital role in the promotion and maintenance of Ohio's 74 state parks. They happily serve, offering campers friendly smiles, assisting naturalists with education programs and welcoming hikers onto litter-free trails. Outdoor enthusiasts of any age, skill and experience level are invited to become Ohio state park volunteers today.

Sandusky, Ohio - A record two-day basket was set by the winning team of Dennis Lantzy of Warren, Michigan and Steve Vande Mark of Linwood, Michigan on the phenomenal fishery of Lake Erie, weighing in 86.38 pounds. This was their first Cabela's MWC victory cashing in $13,300 in total with sponsor bonuses from Ranger Boats and the Oxygenator. The previous two-day basket record was set in 2007 on Lake Ontario at 85.07 pounds.

COLUMBUS, OH - This summer, Ohio State Park lakes are offering more opportunities for boaters to camp aboard their crafts or drop anchor and swim in designated areas.

Boaters may now sleep aboard their watercrafts while secured to public docks on the lakes at Burr Oak, Dillon, Grand Lake St. Marys, Guilford Lake, Indian Lake, Paint Creek, Rocky Fork and Salt Fork state parks, along with Buck Creek State Park's C.J. Brown Reservoir. Boaters may drop anchor and spend the night on the water at designated boat camping areas at Buckeye Lake, Caesar Creek, Hueston Woods State Park's Acton Lake, and Portage Lakes State Park's Turkeyfoot Lake, as well as Grand Lake St. Marys and Buck Creek State Park's C.J. Brown Reservoir. Later this summer, docks for overnight use will be available at Middle Bass Island.
