SYRACUSE, New York - Putting to rest a seven-year drought, Dean Rojas of Lake Havasu, Arizona, scored victory at the Champion's Choice presented by Ramada Worldwide on New York's Oneida Lake, the final Bassmaster Elite Series event of the season. With the victory, Rojas crossed the $1 million mark in career BASS earnings and upped his victory tally to three by posting a four-day total of 65 pounds, 2 ounces, which was enough to hold off hard-charging Kevin Langill of Terrell, N.C., and 2006 Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year Mike Iaconelli of Runnemede, N.J.

Implementing an aggressive protocol for responding to invasive species, DEC plans to treat Ridgebury Lake and Catlin Creek above County Route 6 in Wawayanda (Orange County) with an aquatic pesticide in August. The action is designed to eradicate an invasive fish called the northern snakehead, to protect clean water, and to restore a healthy and productive fishery.

DEC law enforcement officers conducted a very early morning sweep of the Fulton Fish Market in the South Bronx in July, seizing more than 200 illegal fish products. The effort resulted in JMS Seafood Corporation being charged with a misdemeanor for the unlawful sale of oversized striped bass.

CLAYTON, New York - The Empire Division of the $8.8 million Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League® will visit 1000 Islands in Clayton July 12 for the second of five regular-season events. As many as 200 boaters and 200 co-anglers are expected to compete in the tournament, which will award as much as $45,000 in cash, including a top award of $6,000 in the Boater Division.

Bainbridge Island, Washington - The top names in Fly Fishing have joined forces together to put togther a world-class fly fishing outfit as a fundraiser for Trout Unlimited-Alaska to help with their efforts protecting the Bristol Bay watershed.

Every two years the state modifies its fishing regulations and proposes new ones, then offers them to the Great Unwashed Masses for comment before they are instituted.

It's that time again. The Department of Environmental Conservation will accept public comment on the proposals until April 4.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Pete Grannis today announced proposed changes to freshwater fishing regulations to enhance fishing opportunities and protect fisheries resources statewide. DEC will be accepting public comments on the proposals until April 4, 2008.
