SYRACUSE, New York - New Jersey's Kyle Harrigan, 18, and New Mexico's Jordan McMorris, 15, won their respective age divisions Saturday at the Junior Bassmaster World Championship on New York's Onondaga Lake. McAllister Lake to Remain Closed to Fishing

LAS VEGAS -- McAllister Lake will remain closed to fishing until water quality improves to stock fish. A complete die off of all fish occurred in 2007, and the lake currently has low water levels and high salinity. The Department of Game and Fish will monitor water quality and stock fish when they can survive, but there are no fish in the lake at this time.

Comission Expands Gila Trout Fishing

SANTA FE — The State Game Commission expanded opportunities to fish for Gila trout, elected new officers, and rejected a proposal to limit the number of flies anglers can use on a single line at its meeting Feb. 21 in Santa Fe.

Salvage Order Issued at Oasis State Park Pond

The idea for Outdoorsman Exchange came about in an instant, but in a way it was sometime in the making – we just didn’t realize it at the time.

For years my husband, Paul, has wanted to go on an elk hunt. I’ve encouraged him many times. He and his brothers talk how they should all go elk hunting out west with their Dad before age took its toll on him. Pursuit of that dream sounded good but there was always the financial reality check that held my husband back. He couldn’t justify spending money on a guided hunting trip and felt a guided trip was the only way to go for a successful hunt. This voice inside kept telling him - we need to save money for more sensible things like kids braces, college funds, etc. Most everyone can relate to these thoughts, unless you’re an heir to a fortune.

Heat wipes out trout in New Mexico Lake

All of the trout in New Mexico’s McAllister Lake, a popular fishing spot near Las Vegas, have reportedly died as the result of hot summer temperatures and an accidental diversion of water.
"McAllister Lake is really on the threshold for trout in New Mexico," says Eric Frey, Northeast Area Fisheries Manager. "Because the lake is so shallow, summer heat causes marginal water quality for trout survival."

Albuquerque Angler Lands Alan Henry Lunker

ATHENS, Texas—Franco Vallejos of Albuquerque, New Mexico, reeled in the season's 25th Budweiser ShareLunker April 13.

Vallejos was fishing in 2 feet of water in Lake Alan Henry when a 13.05-pound largemouth bass hit a live waterdog. The fish was 25.75 inches long and 20 inches around.
