NOAA Honors Wellenberger, Leader of New Hampshire Estuarine Reserve

DURHAM, N.H. - Peter Wellenberger, a Newmarket, N.H., resident and New Hampshire Fish and Game Department staff member, has been honored by the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for three decades of commitment to stewardship, research and outreach concerning our nation's estuaries.

Prescribed Burn in Concord Airport Area to Improve Wildlife Habitat

CONCORD, N.H. -- New Hampshire Fish and Game and the N.H. Department of Resources and Economic Development Division of Forests and Lands, with support from the N.H. Army National Guard, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and City of Concord, will be conducting a "prescribed burn" in areas on and near Concord Municipal Airport grounds. The prescribed burn may occur as early as Wednesday, August 27, or as late as late October; the date will be finalized when the weather and atmospheric conditions are seen to be safe.

Threatened and Endangered Terns Complete Successful Breeding Season

CONCORD, N.H. - The Isles of Shoals was home to more than 2,200 pairs of breeding terns this summer, including state-endangered common terns; state-threatened Arctic terns; and Roseate terns, which are listed as endangered both in New Hampshire and throughout the U.S.

Anglers -- Please Look for Tagged Bass when Fishing Lake Winnipesaukee

CONCORD, N.H. - Anglers fishing Lake Winnipesaukee are being asked to watch for largemouth and smallmouth bass tagged as part of a New Hampshire Fish and Game Department Warmwater Fisheries Management Program study. Data collected from tagged bass will allow biologists to examine bass movement after release from bass tournament weigh-ins held on Lake Winnipesaukee. The study began during the summer of 2007.

Successful Summer for Endangered Piping Plovers on N.H. Seacoast

CONCORD, N.H. - It has been a productive summer for the federally threatened and state endangered piping plovers that nested in New Hampshire this spring. Recently, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department's Nongame and Endangered Wildlife Program's Piping Plover Monitor Samantha Niziolek confirmed that three chicks had fledged from Seabrook Beach, in addition to the three chicks that fledged from Hampton Beach State Park at the end of June.

Marine Rule Hearing Set for September 2, 2008

DURHAM, N.H. -- The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department will hold a public hearing on various proposed marine rule changes on September 2, 2008, at 7 p.m. at the Urban Forestry Center, 45 Elwyn Road, Portsmouth, N.H. The hearing will be of particular interest to those who fish using gillnets, as well as those taking scallops.
