PHOENIX - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) as part of the Environmental Assessment of its proposal to continue to fund, in part, the Arizona Game and Fish Department's (AGFD) sport fish stocking program over the next 10 years.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department is seeking public review and input on an action plan for wildlife viewing recreation in Arizona.
The Wildlife Viewing Action Plan outlines objectives and strategies to help guide and implement a statewide watchable wildlife project. It identifies programs, products, and services the department is currently providing in wildlife viewing recreation, discusses opportunities and challenges for the future, and identifies new approaches that, if implemented, will help take advantage of opportunities and overcome challenges.

Two Boats Decontaminated at Checkpoint

St. George -- A surprise was waiting for boaters who entered Utah from Arizona on the morning of May 13.

They were required to pull off of Interstate 15 at the port of entry just south of St. George. Then biologists and law enforcement officers with the Division of Wildlife Resources inspected their boats and personal watercraft for quagga mussels.

Arizona Joins Nationwide Effort to Increase Fishing License Sales

ALEXANDRIA, VA - The Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF) has announced that the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) will participate in its State Fishing License Marketing Program aimed at increasing fishing license sales nationwide. More than 30 states currently participate in the initiative, which was developed by RBFF to increase participation in the sport and generate awareness of the connection between fishing license sales and conservation efforts.

Family boating trip on Lake Mead turns deadly when boat takes on water

A 49-year-old man drowned last Wednesday when the boat he was on began to take on water and sank near South Cove on the Arizona side of Lake Mead.

There are very few details available at this time, but according to reports from National Park Service rangers at Lake Mead National Recreation Area (LMNRA), a vessel on Lake Mead began to take water over the bow during a high wind event and swamped.

Comment period is extended to May 11 regarding Arizona sport fish stocking environmental assessment

PHOENIX – The comment period on a draft environmental assessment of Arizona’s sport-fish stocking program has been extended for 30 days to May 11.

On March 10, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and the Arizona Game and Fish Department made available for review a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) on FWS’s proposal to continue providing Sport Fish Restoration funds to continue the state’s long-standing stocking fish program and for hatchery operations and maintenance.

Mr. Whiskers Coming to Urban Arizona Lakes

Now that spring is here Mr. Whiskers is returning to an Urban Fishing Program lake near you.

The catfish season officially kicks off at all Urban Fishing Program lakes and ponds in the Phoenix and Tucson areas on Thursday, March 24 when all lakes will receive deliveries of 15-20 inch channel catfish, with some fish weighing up to 3 pounds.
