Youth Fishing Instructor Training Scheduled

LINCOLN, Neb. - Volunteer youth fishing instructors will be certified Oct. 29 at the Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The free workshop starts at 9 a.m.

Certified instructors in Game and Parks' Youth Fishing Program will learn how to put on fishing programs, derbies and club activities for children and families. Instructors will have the use of free fishing tackle and educational resources at clinics.

-- Josh Adamson of Alliance set an archery record with a 3-pound, 7-ounce European rudd. He took it in Box Butte Reservoir in Dawes County on May 6.

LINCOLN, Neb. - Due to high water, the United States Coast Guard has closed the Missouri River along Nebraska to recreational boat traffic until further notice.

"The closure is due to floodwaters that put recreational boaters at risk," said Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Boating Law Administrator Herb Angell. "The wash and wake caused by motorboats could cause additional damage to already flooded properties. Fast, deep water, loaded with debris has created a danger to boaters and public safety."

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has added several boating safety courses to the schedule so boaters may become certified and safe operators.

Anyone operating a motorboat or personal watercraft in Nebraska must be at least 18 years of age but may be ages 14 through 17 if they have passed the Nebraska boating safety course and are in possession of a valid certificate card. However, a boating safety course is recommended for boaters of all ages. Boating safety certification from other states is recognized in Nebraska.

Nebraska Panfish Limits Change Soon

LINCOLN, Neb. - The daily bag limit on panfish will change effective January 1, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.

Several fishing regulations changes, most of them designed to simplify rules, go into effect at the start of the new year. The regulations will be valid through the end of 2012.

Nebraska City, NE - Dec 1, 2010 - Ice Fishermen have a chance to test - and build - their skills while supporting stewardship of our waters by competing in the Recycled Fish Hardwater Open Tournaments this winter. Two tournaments held last year are back. The Okoboji Hardwater Open will be held at Okoboji Lake, January 8-9, 2011 near Milford, Iowa. The Big Creek Hardwater Open is held January 29-30, 2011 near Des Moines, Iowa.
