LINCOLN, NEBRASKA - Youth and parents are invited to attend a youth fishing clinic at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 2 at the Valentine State Fish Hatchery. The first 100 youth will receive free rods and reels.

Destructive Mussels Closer to Western Nebraska Lakes

LINCOLN, Nebraska -- Larvae of the destructive quagga mussel, a species similar to the zebra mussel, recently have been discovered in several Colorado waters, including Julesburg Reservoir. Zebra mussels have been discovered in northeast Nebraska on sites along the Missouri River and at an Offutt Air Force Base lake.

LINCOLN, Nebraska - Scientists and Fisheries Biologists with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, (UNL) and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will begin a five-year study to understand the locations of anglers throughout the year and their possible influence on fish populations.

MANDATORY BOATING EDUCATION CLASSES SET FOR NEBRASKA TEENS

LINCOLN, Nebraska - Classes are now forming for 14- to 17-year-olds who must successfully complete a boating safety course before operating a boat or personal watercraft in the state.

Here are the latest additions to the growing list of Boating Education classes scheduled across the state. For information regarding classes, contact your local Nebraska Game and Parks Commission office or check on the Boating page at OutdoorNebraska.org. Additional information will be posted as it is received, so check back often to learn about new classes forming in your area.

LENGTH LIMITS RESCINDED ON TWO NEBRASKA LAKES

LINCOLN, Nebraska - All length limits on fish have been temporarily rescinded on two lakes in southeast Nebraska by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The change is in effect for Big Indian Reservoir in Gage County from Feb. 7, 2009-May, 1, 2010 and Iron Horse Trail Reservoir in Pawnee County from Feb. 7-Sept. 30, 2009.
