Wednesday was a definite improvement over recent days, even with the gates sending 11,535 cubic feet of water through the dam every second. That is down from Monday and Tuesday, and the level is beginning to drop in the tailrace. Falling water is good for crappie fishermen in that the fish are pulled back to the edge of the river. Catfish reports fair.

The increase in the release of water through the dam hasn't helped the fishing. James Hardy of Jackson was among the few found fishing on Wednesday and his report was sad. "Three hours, two fish, no keepers," Hardy said. "I gave up on crappie real quick and started on the catfish and I have caught just two little ones. We need more water to bring more crappie."

The idea for Outdoorsman Exchange came about in an instant, but in a way it was sometime in the making – we just didn’t realize it at the time.

For years my husband, Paul, has wanted to go on an elk hunt. I’ve encouraged him many times. He and his brothers talk how they should all go elk hunting out west with their Dad before age took its toll on him. Pursuit of that dream sounded good but there was always the financial reality check that held my husband back. Mississippi River Challenge location changed to Fort Snelling State Park due to bridge collapse 8/3/07

Due to the tragic Interstate 35W highway bridge collapse, the starting point for the annual Mississippi River Challenge canoe and kayak paddle has been changed from the Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park to Fort Snelling State Park.

Mississippi Lake Gets New Crappie Regs

JACKSON, MS—The Mississippi Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks voted 4-1 in late January to institute changes to the state's crappie length and creel limit regulations at Grenada Lake. The new regulations call for a 12-inch minimum length and a creel limit of 15 fish per angler, and will take effect March 23, 2006. The new regulations were made based on observations by Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (DWFP) biologists that the trophy status of Grenada Lake merited such added restrictions.
