Minneapolis, Minn. - It may be rhinestone-studded, but Janet Parker has her second top-ten finish under her belt in the 2011 Bassmaster Central Opens. That puts this chick-that-can-fish in second place for Angler of the Year and in serious contention for an Elite series invitation next year. Who knows-perhaps even Angler of Year and a Bassmaster Classic invitation are within reach. The industry is abuzz. If she can do well at Table Rock, the Elite series spot will be hers. "Earning a spot at that level is quite an accomplishment for anybody," said Jimmy Houston, when asked about Parker's standings. "The fish don't know who is on the end of the line: skinny or fat, black or white, male or female. This is totally about her ability."

Everybody Wins in Save the TaTas™ Fish-Off

Excelsior, Minnesota--- The Stillwater team caught the heaviest basket of fish in the October 6 Save the TaTas™ fishing competition on Lake Minnetonka. Together, both the Stillwater and Excelsior communities raised over $2,000 to help with research and awareness regarding breast cancer through the Save the TaTas foundation. In that way, both towns with their "Ladies Night Out" events that celebrated the pink cause, won.

Finding outdoor fun in Minnesota is easier than ever now that the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has created and launched a handful of new and free applications for mobile devices.

“The DNR is aware that mobile devices are an increasingly popular means of accessing information anytime, anywhere,” explained Steve Lime, DNR data and applications manager. “We decided to try a variety of technical approaches to delivering DNR content. We started with a simple fall colors mobile web page last October that turned out to be very popular.”

Today Governor Mark Dayton joined Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Commissioner Tom Landwehr, legislators, and aquatic invasive species stakeholders from around the state. Landwehr unveiled a new legislative initiative that would help slow the spread of aquatic invasives, such as zebra mussels and Eurasian watermilfoil, by redoubling the state’s efforts to combat the spread of these species in Minnesota lakes and rivers.
