Park Manager Paul Sundberg, who has lived and worked at Gooseberry Falls State Park since 1983, said he can’t remember a winter when the ice formations along the frozen Lower Falls have ever been as beautiful as they are right now.

With the National Weather Service advising against travel this weekend in the area surrounding Old Mill State Park in northwestern Minnesota, the park’s candlelight snowshoe event scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 23, has been canceled. The forecast calls for a combination of rain, sleet, and snow likely to cause unsafe driving conditions.
