Public meeting on proposed Michigan City boat ramp project
A public meeting to discuss building a world-class public boat-launching facility in Michigan City will be held Nov. 2 at City Hall in Michigan City.

TRENTON, Michigan - The Eastern Kentucky team of Jonas Ertel of London, and Tyler Moberly of Berea, Kentucky, won the National Guard FLW College Fishing Central Division event on the Detroit River Saturday with five bass weighing 17 pounds, 12 ounces. The victory earned the team $10,000 to be split between the university and the university's bass fishing club - $7,500 for the bass club and $2,500 for their school. The win also helped them advance to the Central Division Regional Championship.

DETROIT, Michigan - Mark Modrak of China Township, Michigan, weighed a five-bass limit totaling 20 pounds, 7 ounces Saturday to win the EverStart Series Central Division on the Detroit River with a three-day total of 15 bass weighing 58 pounds, 15 ounces. For his victory, Modrak earned $32,913 and a 198VX Ranger boat with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard motor.

CASEVILLE, Mich. - Two brothers hailing from the "thumb" of Michigan are expanding the family-run business that provides on-the-water assistance to Lake Huron boaters and anglers. Capt. Jeff Moore and his brother Capt. Jimmy Moore have purchased TowBoatUS Sand Point (based in Caseville, MI) from former owner Capt. Gary Poirier. The state of Michigan's lake trout regulations will change in 2011, and again in 2012. According to Indiana DNR fisheries biologist Brian Breidert for the Hoosier portion of Lake Michigan, Indiana anglers could benefit by both changes.

LANSING, MICH -- It was the news we all suspected was coming but dreaded to hear - a live Asian carp has been found past the barrier of the Chicago canals. Federal and state officials in Illinois confirmed yesterday that a live bighead carp was discovered by commercial fisherman in Lake Calumet, just six miles from Lake Michigan - this is the same area where a poisoning operation had been conducted recently that turned up no carp.

A mix of Chinook salmon, lake trout, steelhead, brown trout and coho salmon were caught during the Hoosier Coho Club's thirty-sixth Annual Hoosier Coho Classic on the Lake Michigan waters of Indiana, May 1 and 2.
