Michigan Outdoor Writer Wins 2009 Wrangler® ProGear™ "Garments are Gear" Column Contest

GREENSBORO, N.C. (Jan. 5, 2010) – Wrangler® announced today Jerry Dennis of Traverse City, Mich., won the 2009 Wrangler® ProGear™ "Garments are Gear" Column Contest for members of the Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) with his humorous tribute to long underwear.

Trombly Wins Walmart Bass Fishing League Event On Detroit River

TRENTON, Michgian- Michael Trombly of Perrysburg, Ohio, won the Walmart Bass Fishing League® Michigan Division tournament on the Detroit River Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 23 pounds, 11 ounces. The victory earned Trombly $3,553 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Mississippi River Regional Championship in Fort Madison, Iowa, Oct. 1-3, where he could ultimately win a new Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.

Wes Haney Wins Bass Federation Nation Northern Divisional

ESCANABA, Michigan - Three times is the charm for Wisconsin's Wes Haney, who put together a three-day total of 52 pounds, 0 ounces, to win the BASS Federation Nation Northern Divisional and earn his first trip to the BASS Federation Nation National Championship.

Thirty-five newly installed highway billboards near lakes and rivers are warning Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota, and Michigan boaters and anglers this summer not to pick up Aquatic Hitchhikers. In addition, signs in Minnesota at the Twin Cities International Airport, show what the invasive fugitives can look like and how to stop them before they stow-away on boats and trailers and spread to other waters. Television ads during favorite Saturday morning fishing shows are showing sportsmen how to take action against invasive species. Wanted posters in local papers are instructing residents: Wanted Dead, Not Alive.

BURT MULLETT HOSTING MICHIGAN DIVISION BFL TOURNAMENT

CHEBOYGAN, Michigan - The Michigan Division of the $8 million Walmart Bass Fishing League® will visit Burt Mullett in Cheboygan, Michigan, June 6 for the first of five regular-season events. As many as 200 boaters and 200 co-anglers are expected to compete in the tournament, which will award as much as $45,000 in cash, including a top award of $6,000 in the Boater Division.

ROMANACK HEADS TO MUSKEGON, MICHIGAN FOR KING SALMON

TROMBLY TAKES DETROIT RIVER BFL EVENT

TRENTON, Michigan - Boater Michael Trombly of Perrysburg, Ohio, won the Walmart Bass Fishing League Michigan Division Super Tournament on the Detroit River with a two-day catch of 10 bass weighing 40 pounds even. The victory earned Trombly $4,578 plus an $808 Ranger bonus.

HARRISON WINS WAL-MART BASS FISHING LEAGUE EVENT ON ST. CLAIR RIVER

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Michigan- Boater Chip Harrison of Bremen, Indiana, won the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League® Michigan Division tournament on the St. Clair River Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 24 pounds. The victory earned Harrison $3,727, plus a $657 Ranger Bonus, and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Cherokee Lake Regional Championship in Morristown, Tenn., Oct. 16-18, where he could ultimately win a new 198VX Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.

SHAW WINS WAL-MART FLW TOUR CHEVY OPEN ON DETROIT RIVER

DETROIT, Michigan - High winds meant rough waters for the anglers competing in the $1.5 million Wal-Mart FLW Tour Chevy Open on the Detroit River, but in the end Team Kellogg's pro Alvin Shaw of State Road, North Carolina, caught a final-round total of 10 bass weighing 39 pounds, 11 ounces to win $200,000. Shaw topped his closest rival, Team Pringles pro Vic Vatalaro of Kent, Ohio, by only three ounces to earn the win and 200 points toward qualifying for the $2 million Forrest Wood Cup in Columbia, S.C., where the winner will earn as much as $1 million - the biggest award in bass fishing - Aug. 14-17.

CANTERBURY WINS FLW DURACELL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR TITLE

DETROIT, Michigan - Odenville, Alabama, native Scott Canterbury, who made his mark in the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League before qualifying for the Wal-Mart FLW Tour, won the 2008 Duracell Rookie of the Year award with 817 points over six qualifying events.
