2011 Young Of The Year Striped Bass Survey Shows Fourth Highest Reproduction On Record

Annapolis, Md. - The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced that the 2011 Young of the Year (YOY) Striped Bass Survey is 34.6, well above the long-term average of 11.9, and exceedingly higher than 2010's results of 5.9. This is the fourth highest measure of striped bass spawning success in the Chesapeake Bay in the survey's 58-year history.

Baltimore Man's Striped Bass Catch Could be Worth $25,000

Baltimore, Md. - Glenn Gross of Baltimore, Md. has caught what may be the $25,000 Diamond Jim winner and second certified tagged rockfish of the 2011 Maryland Fishing Challenge. Gross was fishing with a group of friends and coworkers aboard the charter boat "Never Enuff," skippered by Captain Shawn Pruitt, in the Chesapeake Bay off of Calvert County, when the 22-inch striped bass came to the side of the boat on the afternoon of July 31.

$20,000 Diamond Jim Now on the Loose

Annapolis, Md - The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) would like to remind recreational crabbers to install the required Turtle Excluder Device (TED) on their crab pots.

As warm weather arrives, waterfront property owners along Chesapeake Bay tributaries will set crab pots in anticipation of catching, steaming and enjoying Maryland's signature delicacy. Every spring and summer, DNR receives reports of diamondback terrapins that are trapped and drown in some of these pots.
