Sweep recovers nearly 500 abandoned crab traps

Fisheries biologists and staff from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), with help from volunteers, collected and disposed of 477 abandoned crab traps during LDWF's annual Crab Trap Clean-up Program. The work was conducted on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, in conjunction with the program's volunteer day.

At its March 4, 2010, meeting, the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission issued a Notice of Intent to modify several parts of the rules for commercial harvest of reef fish including groupers, tilefishes, and red snapper. The purpose of these proposed rules is to provide regulations that are more consistent with regulations in place in federal waters offshore of Louisiana.

Toledo Bend set to round up BFL Cowboy Division

MANY, La. (Feb. 10, 2010) - The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Toledo Bend Feb. 20 for the first of five stops in the Cowboy Division series. As many as 400 pro and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

FLW Tour anglers eager to kick off the new season

SHREVEPORT, La. (Jan. 27, 2010) - The FLW Tour will visit the Red River in Shreveport, La., Feb. 10-13 for the first stop in 2010. Hosted by the Shreveport Regional Sports Authority, the tournament will feature as many as 300 top bass anglers casting for top awards of up to $125,000 cash in the Pro Division and up to $25,000 cash in the Co-angler Division.

Louisiana sets dates for removal of crab traps

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has announced the dates and area for the 7th Annual Derelict Crab Trap Removal Program for 2010.

A ten-day winter trap closure in portions of the Barataria Bay estuary will take place from 6 a.m., Feb. 27 through 6 a.m., March 8 within that portion of Lafourche, Jefferson, and Plaquemines parishes as described below:
