OHIO RIVER TO HOST WAL-MART BASS FISHING LEAGUE BUCKEYE DIVISION TOURNAMENT

MAYSVILLE, KENTUCKY - The Buckeye Division of the $8.8 million Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League® will visit the Ohio River in Maysville August 23 for the fourth of five regular-season events. As many as 200 boaters and 200 co-anglers are expected to compete in the tournament, which will award as much as $45,000 in cash, including a top award of $6,000 in the Boater Division.

Frankfort, Kentucky - Approximately 1,000 blue catfish in Taylorsville Lake are being tagged over the next two weeks as researchers hope to better gauge the impact of angling on this species.

"We're trying to figure out how many blue catfish are being caught, the size of the fish being caught, how many are being kept and what the anglers are using to catch them," said Fisheries Biologist Chris Hickey, a researcher who is heading the project for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

This handout is designed to assist anglers in planning their fishing trips and improving their fishing success. Additional fishing information is available by obtaining copies of the 2008 Sport Fishing and Boating Guide available at most sporting goods stores. The Kentucky Trout Waters brochure is contained in the 2008 Fishing and Boating Guide.

Seasonal Catch & Release Trout Streams

The following streams are stocked in early October (plus early April in Swift Camp Creek) and have a catch and release season (no harvest) from October 1 through March 31, except in Swift Camp Creek where the catch and release season is October 1 through May 31. Only artificial baits may be used during the catch and release season. Statewide regulations apply April through September.

The idea for Outdoorsman Exchange came about in an instant, but in a way it was sometime in the making – we just didn’t realize it at the time.

For years my husband, Paul, has wanted to go on an elk hunt. I’ve encouraged him many times. He and his brothers talk how they should all go elk hunting out west with their Dad before age took its toll on him. Pursuit of that dream sounded good but there was always the financial reality check that held my husband back. He couldn’t justify spending money on a guided hunting trip and felt a guided trip was the only way to go for a successful hunt. This voice inside kept telling him - we need to save money for more sensible things like kids braces, college funds, etc. Most everyone can relate to these thoughts, unless you’re an heir to a fortune.
