Kitchel Wins BFL On Tanners Creek

Lawrenceburg, Indiana - Ladd Kitchel of Flora, Ind.., won the Walmart Bass Fishing League® Hoosier Division tournament on Tanners Creek Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 10 pounds, 1 ounce. The victory earned Kitchel $3,592 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Kentucky/Barkley Lake Regional Championship in Gilbertsville, Ky., Oct. 15-17, where he could ultimately win a new Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.

As many as 200 boaters and 200 co-anglers are expected to compete in the tournament, which will award as much as $45,000 in cash, including a top award of $6,000 in the Boater Division.

Indiana Department of Natural Resources fisheries biologists are scheduled to conduct fish population surveys at 19 natural lakes this summer.

Biologists use these surveys to monitor populations over time and to help identify fish management problems. The surveys provide biologists with information on the diversity of fish present, as well their abundance, size, and rate of growth.

The Indiana DNR will conduct an angler creel survey at Kickapoo Lake in conjunction with a general survey of all three of the Shakamak State Park lakes. The creel survey will begin April 1, and run through October.
