Steelhead Count for Bonneville Dam and Lower Granite Dam
Submitted by FishNews on Mon, 2008-08-11 15:27. General Fishing News | Idaho Fishing NewsLower Granite Dam is the uppermost of eight Army Corps of Engineer' dams on the Columbia and Snake rivers. The majority of steelhead crossing Lower Granite Dam are headed for Idaho streams.
The 2008-09 steelhead counting season at Lower Granite Dam began on June 1 and will continue through May 31, 2009. The Army Corps of Engineers suspends counting between December 16 and March 1.

Idaho Panhandle Region Fishing Report - August 8, 2008

Spring is a transitional time when water conditions change rapidly and fish become more active as temperatures warm. Because fish are cold blooded animals, their activity level and vulnerability to anglers will change as weather conditions change. Many fish spawn in the spring, both in lakes and in area streams and rivers when water temperatures and flows are just right. Fishing is restricted in some areas during this time of year to protect spawning concentrations of fish. This report will give you some ideas on fishing opportunities during the spring.
White Sturgeon Management Plan Available for Review

White sturgeon are the largest freshwater game fish in North America, historically reaching lengths of more than 15 feet and weights of more than 1,000 pounds. They can live to be 100 years old. White sturgeon are highly sought after by anglers across their range in Idaho.

Catch and release steelhead season opened July 1 and the fishing is somewhere between fair and good. Most anglers are fishing at night with lighted lures. Green wigglers are working well right now. If you aren't a night owl, you could try fishing at dusk from the bank with a bobber and a red and black jig at a depth of about 13 feet. Steelhead Count for Bonneville and Lower Granite Dams.

Mountain Lakes: Mountain lakes are probably the best bet for fishing in the area now. Warm weather takes its toll on lower elevation fisheries this time of year. Flies and small spinners are perennial favorites.
