During the past three years an outdoor aquarium has been built along Highway 55 in Cascade.

The outdoor viewing aquarium was built to allow people to see aquatic organisms in a natural-looking setting. Educational information about fish life cycles and fish species identification is also available in a fun, entertaining setting. So what is the aquarium, and how was it constructed and funded?

New York, New York-Outdoor Life magazine ranks the top towns for hunters and anglers to live in its June/July 2009 issue. The magazine used extensive data to score 200 towns on available sporting opportunities and quality-of-life for its second annual ranking. Lewiston, Idaho, population 31,794, took top honors on the magazine's "Best Places to Live" list. The magazine also names 10 great towns on the list for whitetail hunters. The Idaho Fish and Game Commission Thursday, May 14, approved changes in Chinook salmon seasons and limits on the Clearwater and Lochsa rivers.

A greatly reduced Chinook salmon run this year - from one half to one third of the predicted numbers - will also affect Chinook seasons in Idaho.

Idaho Fish and Game managers are seeking comments on a proposed fishery management plan for Bear Lake.

The 2009-2013 Bear Lake Fisheries Management Plan is a joint effort by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game and the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. The two agencies share management authority for the fisheries of Bear Lake and cooperated in the development of this management plan.

This report highlights a few of the best places to fish, what anglers are using and what they are catching. The information is compiled from regional Fish and Game fishery managers, local tackle shops and anglers.

Anybody who wants to launch a boat in Idaho waters will have to buy an Idaho Invasive Species Fund sticker.

A new state law requires the owner of any boat and any non-motorized vessel - canoe, kayak, raft, drift boat etc. - to buy and display an Idaho Invasive Species Fund sticker to legally launch and operate the boat in Idaho.

new, nonresident fees go up friday

News fees for nonresident hunting and fishing licenses, tags and permits go into effect Friday, May 1.

Anglers should hold onto their 2008-2009 Idaho fishing rules brochures for one more year.

Current rules will stay the same through 2010, and then a new two-year rules brochure will be developed for 2011. In the meantime, Fish and Game fisheries managers will continue to take recommendations for rule changes from the public.
