Weekly Fishing Report

Though it's been cold and wet, most reservoir in the Southeast Region are ice free.

Blackfoot Reservoir still is half covered in ice. But Chesterfield is mostly open with small patches of ice. Folks are fishing the reservoir with decent results. Water temperatures are rising and bass, bluegill and crappie are becoming more active and should start spawning soon.

Idaho woodcarvers guild annual exhibition

The Morrison Knudsen Nature Center will host the annual Idaho Woodcarvers Guild show from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 3 and 4.

The Nature Center is located behind the Idaho Fish and Game office at 600 South Walnut St. in Boise.

Grant supports fish and game access program

The future of hunting today depends on hunter access, hunting opportunities for current hunters and the recruitment of new hunters.

The Hunting Heritage Partnership says the "gateway" to securing America's hunting heritage is through today's state wildlife agencies. Idaho Fish and Game has been awarded $153,000 from the 2008 Hunting Heritage Partnerships Program of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the firearm industry's trade association.

Water temps remain cool in the Magic Valley. Fishing has been slow but with a few warmer days it is beginning to pick up.

Salmon Dam anglers are picking up a few rainbow trout, but the best places right now are Milner Dam and the Snake River for bass. Angles are reported doing well at both places. Sturgeon fishing is still doing well on the Snake.

No charges filed in wolf killing

No charges will be filed in a case involving the shooting of two wolves west of Ashton on April 1. "In my opinion, there is 'reasonable doubt' whether the wolves were, or were not, molesting livestock or domestic animals," said Karl H. Lewies, Fremont County prosecuting attorney, in a letter to the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.
