The National Bowhunter Education Foundation (NBEF) is proud to announce their new safety initiative – Project STAND (Stop Tree Stand Accidents N’ Deaths.) Project STANDis a comprehensive educational outreach program promoting tree stand safety and awareness. Recent studies tell us that 10% of hunters who hunt from an elevated tree stand will have some type of hunting incident at some point. This could mean an extended hospital stay, life in a wheel chair or even death. As the popularity of hunting from elevated stands continues to grow, then the chances of tree stand accidents will also grow.

Bainbridge Island, Washington - The top names in Fly Fishing have joined forces together to put togther a world-class fly fishing outfit as a fundraiser for Trout Unlimited-Alaska to help with their efforts protecting the Bristol Bay watershed.

The DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife will hold a public workshop on the status of the Delaware oyster fishery at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 13 in the DNREC Auditorium, 89 Kings Highway, Dover. The workshop will be followed by the regularly scheduled Shellfish Advisory Council meeting at 7 p.m.

The Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife today announced that its spring 2008 trout season will begin Thursday, March 6 with the stocking of two ponds, Tidbury Pond near Dover and Blockhouse Pond in Lewes behind Beebe Medical Center.

n a joint operation with the Delaware State Police aviation unit, Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Agents on the afternoon of Feb. 3 patrolled Sussex County state wildlife areas for off highway vehicles and criminal mischief. Using police vehicles, ATVs and a State Police helicopter, the patrol resulted in six arrests on the Nanticoke Wildlife Area.

For the first time, Delaware’s Public Ponds, a guide to public fishing ponds in Delaware, is available online at the DNREC Division of Fish & Wildlife’s website, www.fw.delaware.gov.

This publication, now in its fifth edition, gives a short summary of fish populations, vegetation coverage, facilities and special conditions at each of DNREC’s 32 public fishing ponds. The information is based on the most recent surveys of the fish populations.

The idea for Outdoorsman Exchange came about in an instant, but in a way it was sometime in the making – we just didn’t realize it at the time.

For years my husband, Paul, has wanted to go on an elk hunt. I’ve encouraged him many times. He and his brothers talk how they should all go elk hunting out west with their Dad before age took its toll on him. Pursuit of that dream sounded good but there was always the financial reality check that held my husband back. He couldn’t justify spending money on a guided hunting trip and felt a guided trip was the only way to go for a successful hunt. This voice inside kept telling him - we need to save money for more sensible things like kids braces, college funds, etc. Most everyone can relate to these thoughts, unless you’re an heir to a fortune.

DNREC’s Coastal Program Administrator, Sarah Cooksey, introduced Pilottown Marina as a certified Delaware Clean Marina at the recognition ceremony held today at the marina in Lewes. Robert Baldwin, Director of the Division of Soil and Water Conservation presented the Delaware Clean Marina certificate and flag to Pilottown Marina and praised the marina for its efforts to improve the cleanliness of Delaware’s coastal waterways.
