MOBILE, Alabama - Roland Martin, bass angling's renowned touring pro and acknowledged father of pattern fishing, has put his name on a new fishing tool, polarized sunglasses with low-profile bifocal magnifiers for knot tying, clearing line tangles, unhooking fish, and other angling tasks requiring close-up eye focus and attention.

Governor Bob Riley has extended red snapper season within Alabama's jurisdictional waters through October 31, 2008.

After discussion with Conservation Commissioner Barnett Lawley, Riley cited the inconsistency of the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) to force compliance with the federal regulations regarding red snapper in Florida and Texas. Texas has a year-round season for its states waters with a four-fish bag limit with a minimum length of 15 inches, while Florida has an April 15 through Oct. 31, 2008 season with a two-fish bag limit with a minimum length of 16 inches.

PELL CITY, Alabama- The Dixie Division of the $8.8 million Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League® will visit Logan Martin Lake in Pell City, Ala., July 12 for the fourth of five regular-season events. As many as 200 boaters and 200 co-anglers are expected to compete in the tournament, which will award as much as $45,000 in cash, including a top award of $6,000 in the Boater Division.

Jeremy Starks posted his first BASS win at the recent Bassmaster Elite Series Event at Alabama's Wheeler Lake, plucking the victory from all-time BASS career earnings leader Kevin Van Dam. Winning by just eight ounces, Starks credited his victory to his decision to protect his secret spot on the Decatur Flats, saving its bounty for the final day. He also credited the protection and glare-cutting performance of his Wiley X® Climate Control Series™ sunglasses.

Bainbridge Island, Washington - The top names in Fly Fishing have joined forces together to put togther a world-class fly fishing outfit as a fundraiser for Trout Unlimited-Alaska to help with their efforts protecting the Bristol Bay watershed.

It wasn’t exactly the way he wanted to end his year atop the bass fishing world, but Boyd Duckett is not about to complain.

Duckett, the Demopolis businessman who became the first home-state angler to win a Bassmaster Classic last year with his victory on Lay Lake, struggled on the opening day of the 2008 Classic in Greenville, S.C., and wasn’t able to make the cut.

GREENVILLE, S.C. - When Kathy Magers "retired" from bass fishing eight years ago, she had no clue what was on the horizon for her and women who fish professionally.

At that time, all those years ago in 2000, Magers and the ladies competed on the Women's Bass Fishing Association. It was the only professional circuit specifically for women and was the successor to the Bass 'n Gal trail that had been around for a couple of decades.

The idea for Outdoorsman Exchange came about in an instant, but in a way it was sometime in the making – we just didn’t realize it at the time.

For years my husband, Paul, has wanted to go on an elk hunt. I’ve encouraged him many times. He and his brothers talk how they should all go elk hunting out west with their Dad before age took its toll on him. Pursuit of that dream sounded good but there was always the financial reality check that held my husband back. He couldn’t justify spending money on a guided hunting trip and felt a guided trip was the only way to go for a successful hunt. This voice inside kept telling him - we need to save money for more sensible things like kids braces, college funds, etc. Most everyone can relate to these thoughts, unless you’re an heir to a fortune.
