BFL Volunteer anglers to tie up with cold, crabby bass

Fishing Tournaments | Tennessee Fishing News

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (Feb. 24, 2010) - The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Cherokee March 6 for the first of five stops in the Volunteer Division series. As many as 400 pro and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

"It has been really cold in the Southeast and Southwest, we ain't seen cold conditions like this in a long time," said FLW Tour pro Jack Wade of Knoxville, Tenn. "If it stays this cold all it could take is 10-12 pounds to win this tournament.

"The lake is going to be stained, finesse fishing with crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and jerkbaits will work best in these cold conditions. If we are lucky enough to get a warming trend you might see a big bite; the lake is capable of producing both large and smallmouths.

Anglers will take off and weigh-in at Cherokee Park located at Boat Launch Road in Morristown, Tenn. Take-off is at 7 a.m. while weigh-in is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Lake Cherokee BFL tournament is being hosted by the Morristown Chamber of Commerce.

Bass Fishing League competition is a 24-division league circuit devoted to weekend anglers, that offers even bigger prizes to qualifiers of the regional championship and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing - the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
