LeaseTrader.com surveyed people who are planning on enjoying a variety of recreation activities this summer. Given the recession, we wanted to know what activities people are planning and what types of vehicles they'll be driving to accommodate these activities. MIAMI – (June 25, 2009) – Summer is a time to hop in the car and enjoy the great outdoors and fun activities. LeaseTrader.com today announced results from its Summertime Vehicle Recreation Survey, where more than 1,500 people took part in the company’s online poll to report what they’re driving and doing this summer. The majority of people are opting for the Ford Escape Hybrid for summer activities like family fishing trips.
LeaseTrader.com, the company that helps you adopt someone else’s short-term car lease to save money, also found that the Volkswagen Tiguan and Mazda CX-7 are two additional vehicles many people are choosing this summer for budget-friendly recreation outings that involve the whole family, like fishing trips, camping and backpacking.
The majority of those surveyed (63%) are opting for shorter-term summertime recreational vehicles that are 10-20% less expensive than what they would normally spend in years past. Those surveyed said they want a vehicle with 6-10 months remaining on the lease allowing them to focus the family auto budget on value and versatility.

Survey results showed that people still want convertibles for a fun summer ride but are opting for less expensive alternatives. Short-term lease drivers today favor the MINI Cooper convertible compared with the most popular choice two years ago – the Mercedes-Benz CLK convertible.
