LIHU‘E — The Polihale State Park camping area on the west coast of Kaua‘i was closed today by the Dept. of Land and Natural Resources due to an major underground break in the waterline. The water to the park has been turned off while the contractor Aqua Engineers assisted by park staff are conducting emergency waterline repair. All attempts will be made to repair the line as quickly as possible.

“The day use area of the park is open except for the camping area, until the problem can be corrected and the water service is restored,” said Laura H. Thielen, DLNR chairperson. A camping area closure sign was posted at the access road leading to the camping areas. Portable toilets were brought in this afternoon for the day use area.

State Parks personnel have notified campers at the park with permits. Only three camping permits were issued for the weekend.
