Youth Hunting Seasons Just Around the Corner

Roe is encouraging adults to promote the state’s hunting and trapping heritage by introducing youngsters to the great outdoors during the variety of mentored youth and junior hunting seasons.

Clubs Sign Up to Host Junior Pheasant Hunts

Pennsylvania Game Commission Executive Director Carl G. Roe today offered his praise to the 23 sportsmen’s clubs throughout Pennsylvania who signed up to host junior pheasant hunts. The clubs will share in 1,500 pheasants the agency is providing for junior pheasant hunts.

MANTUA RESERVOIR: Three groups of anglers interviewed Tuesday had all caught fish. One angler caught several nice perch—up to 11 inches—using a small piece of a worm on a hook. The other anglers reported fair fishing for small bluegill and bass.

Surf Fishing Clinic for Women Oct. 4 at IBSP

Surf Fishing Clinic - (No surf fishing experience needed.) Open to women only at least 18 years old. All equipment and bait will be provided. Participants will learn the basics of surf fishing, including information on rods, reels, weights, line, tackle, knots, bait, fish identification, casting, reading the surf, and caring for your catch. The afternoon will be spent on the beach using techniques learned to fish the surf. The workshop will take place rain or shine, warm or cold. Participants should be prepared with appropriate clothing, as well as other convenience items such as sun screen, sunglasses, hat, and foul weather gear.

FWC Sets Meeting for Jacksonville Sept. 17-19

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will meet at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront hotel in Jacksonville Sept. 17-19.

On Sept. 17 (Wednesday), the Commission will vote on several new rules.

Either-Sex Deer Permit, Special Area Hunt Deadline is Sept. 4

Hunters who have not applied for an either-sex deer permit by Sept. 4 will be restricted to taking only bucks in designated deer lottery areas.

“The number of deer lottery areas have increased and the number of available permits has been lowered in other areas,” said Lou Cornicelli, big game program coordinator for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR). “Check the regulations and don’t presume that there are no changes in the area you want to hunt.”

Trail Funding Meeting Planned

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources offers put-and-take hunting for ring-necked pheasants, Nov. 22 - 30, at Atterbury, Glendale, Pigeon River (west of SR 3), Tri-County, Willow Slough and Winamac Fish and Wildlife areas and Roush Lake.
