Spring Mill State Park hosting heirloom plant and seed exchange, April 27

Indiana Fishing News | Outdoor News
Spring Mill State Park hosts its annual heirloom plant and seed exchange SundayApril 27, from 1 to 5 p.m. Park visitors are invited to bring their heirloom plants or seeds to the pioneer village to trade them for seedlings grown in the pioneer garden.

An heirloom plant is a plant variety that has been cultivated at least 50 years, and open pollinated, so that seeds from the plant, when planted, come back true to the original plant.

“Many area residents look forward to our exchange. It's a unique opportunity for visitors to take home heirloom plants from the village gardens,” said Spring Mill volunteer coordinator Coletta Prewitt.

If you have a large garden and oodles of plants to trade, call ahead and the park will set a table up for you.

Don’t have anything to trade? The village gardener will have plants from the formal garden for sale at the Pioneer Village Mercantile.

The park entrance fee is $5 per vehicle for Indiana residents and $7 per vehicle for out of state residents.

For questions about the heirloom exchange call Coletta Prewitt at (812) 849-4129.
