Hawaii Fishing News

HONOLULU – The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) invites the public to
attend an informational meeting regarding the proposed restoration and debris removal project in
Makaua Stream. Makaua was one of the streams in Windward O‘ahu that was heavily damaged
by the March 2006 storm.

The meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at the Ka‘a‘awa
Elementary School Cafeteria, 51-296 Kamehameha Highway.
Impacted residents adjacent to the stream are encouraged to attend. The design plans, status,
schedule and construction right of entry to stabilize or restore portions of the stream and remove
debris caused by the storm will be discussed. This is DLNR’s second meeting with the
community to discuss the proposed stream restoration project.

“The State is partnering with U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation
Service to mitigate damage caused by the 2006 storm,” said Laura H. Thielen, DLNR
chairperson.

“We are pleased to be moving forward with this project that will utilize federal funds to provide
assistance to homeowners by removing debris and restoring portions of the stream,” she said.
Federal funds will finance 75 percent of the construction cost with the State funding the
remaining 25 percent.
