Hawaii DLNR Resumes Issuing Hiking and Camping Permits for Kalalau Trail
LIHU‘E — The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) has resumed issuing camping permits for the remote Kalalau Trail, Kalalau Valley camping area in the Na Pali Coast State Park, following an improvement in weather conditions on Kaua‘i.
The trail was closed on February 5 in the interest of public safety due to persistent heavy rains
and flash flooding on the island.
The Kalalau Trail traverses exceptionally scenic high sea cliffs and lush stream valleys with plunging waterfalls. The trail head is located at the end of Kuhio Highway (Hwy. 56) in Ha‘ena State Park.
Information about the Kalalau Trail and other state parks is available online at www.hawaiistateparks.org, or through the DLNR Division of State Parks Kaua‘i district office at (808) 274-3444.
