California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) biologists recently completed a successful season tagging sturgeon in Bay Area waters. The tagging operation is part of a population study aimed at managing California's white and green sturgeon. Green sturgeon are currently protected in California under the Federal Endangered Species Act.

Koenings, Ph.D., from his position as director of the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), effective Dec. 11, and appointed Phil Anderson as interim department director.

SNOOK SEASONS CLOSE IN DECEMBER

There are two snook harvest seasons closing in December. The first snook closure starts on December 1 in all of Florida?s Gulf of Mexico, Everglades National Park and Monroe County coastal and inland waters. The harvest season for snook will remain closed until March 1 in these areas.

ALABAMA TAKES STEPS TO CONSERVE LARGE CATFISH

To maintain high quality catfish fishing in Alabama, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources? Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division has enacted a new regulation. Only one catfish longer than 34 inches may be harvested each day by an angler. Live blue catfish or flathead catfish longer than 34 inches cannot be transported out of Alabama without approval in writing from the Commissioner of Conservation and Natural Resources. This regulation only affects catfish 34 inches or longer.
