Conservation Plan to be Developed for Fall Chinook Salmon in Southern Oregon

ROSEBURG – Next month, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will begin developing a conservation plan for fall chinook salmon that live in streams south of Port Orford in Curry County. Rogue River basin fall chinook salmon also are included in the planning effort.

Chetco and Winchuck rivers re-open to chinook angling Nov. 5

GOLD BEACH, Ore. – The Chetco River re-opens Nov. 5 to chinook angling upstream of the Harbor water intake tower at river mile (RM) 3, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife managers announced today. The Winchuck River also re-opens to chinook angling Nov. 5.

Commission meets in Salem Nov. 14

SALEM, Ore.--The Fish and Wildlife Commission will meet Friday, Nov. 14 in Salem to consider disease-testing requirements for elk ranches and a management plan for black-tailed deer.

FLORIDA FWC MEETS DECEMBER 3-4 IN KEY WEST

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will meet at the Doubletree Grand Key Resort at Key West December 3-4.

The Wednesday, Dec. 3 agenda will focus on inland issues, including proposed legislation to clean up boating statutes related to vessels and vessel registration. Also, Commissioners will consider final action on boating restrictions in Martin and Okeechobee counties, based on a vessel traffic study and requests for revisions from stakeholders and governmental bodies.

214 IHSA Schools Register for Inaugural Bass Fishing Tournament

The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) announced today that 214 schools will compete in the inaugural IHSA Bass Fishing State Series during the spring of 2009.

“The registration of 214 schools for bass fishing greatly exceeded our expectations for the first season of this activity,” said IHSA Executive Director Marty Hickman. “The groundswell of support from our membership reinforces the decision that our Board of Directors made in choosing to sponsor bass fishing and we believe that these numbers will only continue to grow.”

On behalf of the National Marine Fisheries Service, Macro International, Inc. (a private survey research firm) is seeking participants for an upcoming paid study to examine fishing choices made by recreational anglers.

Federal Government Confirms Red Drum and Striped Bass Gamefish Status

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Marine Fisheries Service (NFMS) announced in the October Federal Register that the requirements set by Executive Order 13449 which established striped bass and red drum as gamefish have been fulfilled.
