Boating NewsAboard Air Force One late yesterday, President Bush signed S. 2766, "The Clean Boating Act of 2008," which permanently restores a long-standing exemption for recreational boats from permitting requirements under the Clean Water Act. This signing of the bill is the capstone moment of a two-year campaign to eliminate an onerous permit program for recreational boaters that would have dictated maintenance and operation procedures, potentially subjected boaters to citizen lawsuits, and put recreational boats under a penalty system designed for industrial polluters.

New Hampshire Fishing NewsThe New Hampshire Fish and Game Department today released the name of the young man who drowned in the East Branch of the Pemigewasset River on Friday, July 25. The victim was Christopher Elizardo, age 19, of Dallas, Texas. Elizardo was employed in New Hampshire for the summer and had been swimming in the river with a friend near Lincoln, N.H., when he was caught in the current and swept downriver.

DNR MODIFIES COMMERCIAL STRIPED BASS DECEMBER SEASON
Submitted by admin on Tue, 2007-12-04 15:40. Maryland Fishing NewsPursuant to Code of Maryland Regulation 08.02.15.12(H), DNR has modified the striped bass December gill net daily catch limit. The December daily catch limit has been replaced with a total allowable weekly catch limit of 2,500 pounds per licensee. This total allowable weekly catch limit will expire at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, December 31, 2007. This change is recommended by the Tidal Fisheries Advisory Commission when the December gill net quota is in excess of 200,000 pounds.
